The economic security after retirement has three legs: Social Security, the federal retirement program; Private Pension (or Public Pension for public employees), provided by employers; and Personal Savings, what’s in your bank account or under your mattress.
A major expenditure item of the retired is health care. The corresponding government program is Medicare (for 65+), Medicaid (for the poor) and SCHIP (for the poor children).
